Best Travel Card Games for Preschoolers (Easy & Fun for Trips)

favorite travel games for kids 4-8

🚗 Traveling with young kids is all about keeping them distracted long enough to get where you need to go!  If you want to get somewhere without the meltdowns, the whining and the "are we there yets!?", my advice as a traveling parent is to keep your kids engaged before the meltdowns start.  And that does not have to involve screens!   We always turn to games, and pack a few favorites within easy reach everywhere to go.    Just a few rounds of these easy games will change the mood in an instant!

🃏 Travel card games are perfect for road trips, plane trips, train travel and more - they are small, easy to pack, easy to play anywhere and super effective for keeping kids engaged.  And engaged kids are not whining and makes traveling fun!

🚸 For pre-schoolers, you want games that are:

    1. accessible to pre-readers - images that keep them engaged are key!
    2. easy to learn - avoiding frustration in learning how to play helps keep the interest for longer
    3. actually fun to play  - just "educational" won't keep kids engaged for long

Here are some of our favorite games for pre-schoolers - and of course, Go Poop! made the list!

    1. Go Poop!  - we made a game that kids LOVE to play over and over - the easy rules and quick game set up are perfect for young players.
    2. Uno - this game is timeless and has been around forever for a reason.  It does not require reading, helps re-enforce number and color recognition and is perfect for kids learning to match colors and numbers.
    3. Rat a Tat Cat - this game is a little more advanced - it does require some understanding of numerical orders, but can be leveled up and down.  Once kids understand the game play, it is both educational and will be played on repeat!.
